Nautch performance (a courtly form of Indian dance) with the prominent dancer Misri Khana and several instrumentalists, hosted by the then-incumbent of the throne of Sind, Mir Murad Ali, in his palace for a friend sitting next to him. – Rare, very well-preserved, wide-margined print. The scene was captured by Melville Grindlay on the occasion of a diplomatic mission of the British Embassy in India to Sind (actually Sindh, a province in southeast Pakistan) and is considered largely authentic. Sind managed to evade British colonization until 1843. Robert Melville Grindlay
